Missions and Charities

St. John’s has created a strong Missions and Charities group whose prime responsibility is to distribute the tithed giving which as a church we are committed to giving – this averages approximately £4,000 per annum.

We are concerned to support a range of causes, both at home and overseas, causes which the congregation might be able to identify with and relate to. We encourage charities to attend our services where they are given the opportunity to speak either in addition to or instead of the sermon. Examples are our support of local homeless and needy people through the Welcome Centre at the Methodist Church in Huddersfield, the Wakefield Rent Deposit Scheme and Turning Point (a Christian counselling service in Brighouse).

Further afield we have renewed our commitment to Ruth and Rob in their work with Christians in Muslim areas of the Middle East, and provide support to the daughter of the Baptist Minister from Upper Edge (Part of the Rastrick Group of Churches) working with street children in Brazil. In addition to the above we make regular donations to our link Parish in Mara.

We are committed to the annual Christian Aid envelope system and the work of the Children’s Society at our Christingle Services
