Notice
Special Service on the 10th January
Sunday 10th January will see a first in St.John's. At the 10.15 service something will happen that has never happened in St.John's before. Eight of our children, who have not been Confirmed, will be admitted to receive Communion. It can only happen because
- The church council has decided we want it to happen, after consultation with the congregation
- The Bishop has approved that decision
- Each of the children has been Baptised (or will have been by the time we get to that stage in the service!)
- Their parents agree
- They have all been prepared in an age-appropriate way and assisted to apprehend the awe of receiving Communion and the way we are incorporated into the body of Christ by receiving it.
This is a very exciting time and makes a bit more sense of our claim that 'we are one body because we all share one bread'. We are more visibly an inclusive community accepting God's unconditional hospitality around his table.
I hope that we shall have many more such services and come to see that God's generosity is for everybody, regardless of status or academic achievement. We can do it as often as we want: we don't have to wait for a bishop to come round. Please do have a word with me if you are interested in your child receiving Communion.
