Children and Young people
Caring for our children at St John's
A genuine effort is made to welcome and include all children whether regular members of the congregation of those visiting, perhaps for a family get-together or a baptism.
For children from birth to 3 years, crèche provision is made in the Lady Chapel (to the right of the alter). Parents and carers are encouraged to take their young children whenever they think it helpful. Age appropriate toys are provided and parents and carers can still follow the service.
For children 3 - 11 years. We have Junior church. The children meet in church then go across to the main hall for their sessions. Here, we use the "Roots" material which follows the Lectionary. The children enjoy a variety of stories and make crafts according to the relevant readings of that day. We have leaders and helpers that take care of the children during these sessions
For children 11 years upwards. .We offer a youth group for those children starting at high school. They enjoy meeting together 2 monthly and have many items on their agenda which they produce themselves.
To accommodate family holidays, the Junior church does not usually meet during local school holidays. We do not meet on the 3rd Sunday as we have family morning worship service.Written policies are in place all adults concerned, do their utmost to ensure that children at St John's are welcomed, included and cared for, kept safe, happy and involved in learning about the wonders of our faith!
